The City of Wood Lake is a Statutory "Plan A" city governed by a mayor, who serves a two-year term and four council members—all of whom are elected to staggered, four-year terms. All regular city elections are held in conjunction with the state and federal general elections in even-numbered years. The City Council holds regular meetings the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Wood Lake Community Center.
